Shizuoka 2025

I traveled to Fujikawa and Shimizu to view Mt. Fuji, and passed by the Shimizu/Shizuoka area. It was the home to one of Japan’s most important deep-water ports, Shimizu serves as a major hub for exports such as frozen tuna, paper products, and industrial goods, with ships, trucks, and logistics moving in a steady rhythm throughout the day. Despite the constant flow of freight, the infrastructure is immaculate: streets are clean, rivers are lined with pedestrian walkways, and the city functions with quiet efficiency. Many buildings here date back to the 1970s and 80s, and as people gravitate toward Tokyo, the remaining shops and restaurants feel quieter, with owners sitting outside waiting for customers, leaving me unsure whether I arrived during an off-peak hour or it's just how the city now lives day to day.
