Iceland – North Iceland

The drive from Egilsstaðir to Akureyri feels like shuttling through different worlds in minutes. You might see endless lava fields, and in the blink of an eye, they turn into lush green grasslands, only to be surrounded moments later by snow-capped mountains. It was fickle and magical. From Akureyri to Búðardalur, the landscape becomes more predictable, with endless fenced farmlands and scattered villages. This area has some of the most fertile land in Iceland. Although the fields are fenced and look empty, they’re often growing wheat-one of Iceland’s most common crops, mainly used to feed livestock like sheep and horses—taking advantage of the long summer daylight.
